TESTED – Orisec CK-20-LCD & ES530-BP

by Andy Clutton

The Orisec CK-20-LCD panel is a UK designed and manufactured Grade 2 alarm system, with good expansion capabilities and flexible configuration. The ES530-BP external sounder is rated up to Grade 3 and has the advantage of customised logos and enhanced visibility. The Orisec product line includes a wide range of wired and wireless control panels, expanders, communicators, keypads, detectors, sounders and loudspeakers.

Getting started

The plastic-cased alarm panel is opened by loosening the two crosshead non-captive screws under the top flap, the front panel then unclips from the base. The top centrally mounted display / keypad module is top hinged, so can be raised above the panel to give access to all the required connections on the main PCB.

Mains power must be fed into the fully enclosed power supply at the left of the panel; this has a removable cover over the terminals for additional safety. These have a ~ 5mm screwdriver slot while the alarm terminals will accept up to a standard 3mm screwdriver blade. A range of mounting and access holes are provided on the back panel.

The space for a backup battery can take up to a 2.3Ah with a 7Ah for the Plus version of the case.

The termination resistors are supplied as 10 x 2.2kΩ and 10 x 4.7kΩ for double EOL but a wide range of alternative termination resistance options are supported by the panel.

When first powered up, the panel display shows the Orisec logo and reports its status. The initial factory default engineer code can be used to enter the programming menu and silence any alarms.

The keypad has positive tactile keys with a simple confirmation tone when pressed. The four-line LCD display is clear and allows navigation through the options using four cursor keys.

The external siren uses a 4-wire connection system with various wiring option along with the potential to chain further units.

The supplied printed manuals and guides are well laid out and comprehensive, copies are not directly available via the Orisec website but would be available to installers through technical support.

Hardware

The CK-20-LCD Panel has dimensions of 195 x 275 x 55 mm (h, w, d) and a weight of just under 900 grams without battery. Slotted mounting holes are provided in each corner of the back panel with a central keyhole mount for initial mounting. An adjacent tamper screw hole is also provided.

The ES530-BP Grade 3 sounder has a hexagonal appearance with overall dimensions of 296 x 297 x 62 mm (h, w, d) and a weight of just under 1.4kg. Six mounting holes are provided plus a central keyhole slot for initial positioning, a spirit level is mounted into the back plate to aid levelling.  The centre left mounting hole provides wall tamper protection if required. The mounting holes include rotatable slots to help centralise the screw fixings. All connections are clearly identified and accessible.

The sounder cover is available in a wide range of colours for casing and LED lens cover. The cover is held down by two half-turn crosshead fixings with an additional tamper switch on the right-hand side. The hinged front cover raises and clicks into place for installation or maintenance.
