Wagner Rail has expanded the FirExting portfolio with Water Mist Compact, a water mist-based fire suppression system. It is suitable for passenger areas in rolling stock as well as on-board kitchens or restrooms.
Water mist systems work by releasing micro-fine water droplets that evaporate very quickly as mist, thereby drawing heat energy away from the fire. This enables fire suppression with low water consumption.
“Thanks to their low water consumption, water mist systems cause very little secondary damage, making them ideal for areas where operations need to resume quickly after a fire. The fine droplets leave no residue. And after a fire, the system is quickly back up and running,” explains Dr. Markus Müller, managing director of Wagner Rail. “Our latest development goes one step further: it is our smallest and lightest water mist system. It can be installed in a more compact space while delivering the same performance. Both planning and integration into the vehicle are simpler than with conventional systems.”
This is made possible by the design of the compact water mist system. For the first time, the water needed for fire suppression and the nitrogen gas required for atomisation are housed together in a single container. This allows for the elimination of additional components and extensive piping to a large extent. This not only saves installation space and weight but also reduces the number of interfaces with the vehicle.
