Dashboard video cameras are becoming ever increasingly popular to help with insurance claims and apportioning blame and like other CCTV cameras they also catch unusual events.

Over the last few days some of the UK has experienced rather wintry weather resulting in motorist Bob Hill capturing this footage as he drove through the Midlands on the M62. The motorway lights in the central reservation appeared out of control as gusts blew down the high-speed carriageway.

The Highways Agency said the video shows ‘vortex shedding’ – when the natural frequency of a lamp column matches the speed of the wind. A spokesman for the agency said that the phenomenon “only happens at certain wind speeds and is a known but fairly rare event”.
