TESTED – Y3K IQK02DMB Kit

by Andy Clutton

This is a complete 2-camera 4K IP CCTV system engineered for professional installation. Designed for installers, small to medium commercial premises, and residential installations where fixed lens kits will not adapt to changing requirements.

The NVR is supplied with an external 48v power supply that can take an input from 100 to 240 v AC 50-60Hz. It has an IEC connector and is supplied with a UK format lead. A USB mouse is included for menu navigation, and a Quick Start guide provides basic setup information.

NVR dimensions are 200 x 175 x 40 mm (W x D x H) and with a weight of 976 grams. All connections are on the rear panel with 8 x PoE ports at the left, then LAN, HD-Out, 2 x USB and Power-in to the right. The video HD out is a single HDMI socket. The camera is IP67 rated, turret style with dimensions of 115 x 120 mm (⌀ x D) and a weight of 662 grams.

Operation

At first power-up the NVR briefly shows a startup message then after its initialisation prompts the user for the language with English as the default. Once entered you must enter the default password and then you are asked to enter your new unique password with an indicator to show password strength. A couple of security questions are included in case of password loss along with an e-mail address to receive password reset help if required. Once these are set an unlock pattern can be set or skipped.

The next screen prompts for time and date with an NTP server as default, however, daylight saving time is not set by default so must be configured later. The next setting is network addressing with DHCP on by default. Once changed or accepted, the cameras are detected or added manually. Finally, the Hard Drive status is shown and for a new system the drive can be formatted. Once these steps are completed, the screen shows a nine-way display with any connected cameras in their relevant sectors.

Performance

The IQR0908P NVR is fan-less so is quiet in operation and runs at low overall temperature. The eight PoE ports can provide a total of 45W shared between the ports with a maximum port power of 30W. The camera PoE page can be called up to show a real-time view of the power demand on each port. The single drive location can accept up to an 8TB drive.

The unit’s small size means that it can be easily concealed. The two pre-terminated twenty-metre RJ45 network leads means that a simple system can be installed and running very quickly. The video output can accommodate monitors up to 3840 x 2160 and this is ideal to see the benefit of the detailed camera images, but usable images can be seen on a lower performance monitor. The Preview screen has options for 1, 2, 4, 6, 8, or 9 cameras to be displayed or a sequence can be run. Motion detection can be used to switch momentarily to a full screen view if required.
