AI surveillance for duty free retailer

by Andy Clutton

ATÜ Duty Free, a duty-free retailer in Turkey, aimed to establish a security and AI-powered surveillance system in the new Antalya Airport terminal building project to maximise operational efficiency and customer experience.

The project was implemented using over 1,450 Hanwha Vision camera solutions and deep learning-based AI capabilities by integrator Arte Teknoloji.

The new terminal building at Antalya Airport required a surveillance system for the prevention of in-store theft, inventory losses and security breaches in critical areas and also for the effective management of customer flow, congestion levels, and checkout processes in the retail area.

The backbone of the project consists of Hanwha Vision cameras including 1200 QNV-C6083R dome cameras for in-store areas, corridors, warehouses and customer tracking and 250 QNO-C6083R bullet cameras for exterior facades, entrances/exits, and critical surveillance points.

Using Hanwha Vision’s camera and Genetec’s VMS integration, critical AI analytics solutions tailored for ATÜ were implemented including queue management and the measurement of passenger density in different sections of the store and at the main entrances, working hours and staff distribution were optimised.

Thanks to the project, ATÜ Duty Free has achieved gains not only in security but also in operational excellence at Antalya Airport.
