TESTED – Serage C-Colour Camera

by Andy Clutton

The Serage SRPDN4FAIW is a 4MP IP67 turret style dome camera with very high sensitivity, wide viewing angle, AI based detection, and audio & visual deterrent capabilities. It is designed to provide 24-hour colour imaging with no white light required.

Getting started

The camera has a single cable feeding out into two connectors; an RJ45 network connector and a 12-volt power jack for non-PoE network connections. The quick-start guide provides mounting instructions and information on the Serage Android and iOS apps. A website providing a device search function was also listed, however this was not accessible during testing. Standard network search tools can be used to locate the device on a DHCP enabled network. The camera’s webpage can then be accessed using one of the major browsers.

At first connection you are forced to enter a suitably strong password and then presented with several optional password recovery options. Following this a “Machine Vision Face Recognition Algorithm Protocol” agreement must be ticked to allow use of that feature. The screen then shows the camera image with Stream selection and Live, Playback & Remote Setting buttons at the top of the screen with image, and alert icons at the bottom.

Alternatively, the camera can be accessed when connected to a Serage NVR such as the SR8008NP which supports up to 8 PoE cameras, this can upload its password to connected cameras to match the NVR and give full access to system configuration.

Camera PoE power is stated as 6.48W max with around 4.3W being drawn during tests with LEDs on.

A single Allen screw in the camera surround secures the globe section. Once released the camera can be positioned in the base for image orientation or to give access to the MicroSD memory card slot for up to 256GB cards. This slot is protected by a plastic cover held in place with two captive crosshead screws. Alongside the card slot is a reset switch that can be used to restore factory settings.

Overall dimensions of the dome are approximately 116mm diameter x 98mm height and with a weight of 602 grams.

Menu Options

The camera’s Remote Setting option accesses the Serage menu page. Options are listed at the left of the screen with the main screen area showing the sub-options and the image display for appropriate settings.

The main options are:

Channel:- Live, Image Control, Video Cover, ROI

Record:- Encode, Record, Capture

Event:- Setup, Alarm

AI:- Setup, Recognition, Alarm, Statistics

Network:- General, Email, FTP, RTSP, DDNS, HTTPS, IP Filter, Platform Access

Device:- Disk, Audio

System:- General, Multi-User, Maintenance, Information

The AI detection capabilities include; Face Detection, People & Vehicle, Perimeter Intrusion, Line Crossing, Object Detection, Cross Counting, Heat Map, Crowd Density, Queue Length, Licence Plate, Rare Sound, Intrusion, Region Entrance, and Region Exiting. Functions are mutually exclusive due to processor demand. Scheduling is available in half-hour blocks for each day of the week.

The Serage NVR uses a tile menu layout which is broadly similar in functionality to the camera’s webserver menu options.
