TESTED – i-PRO WV-X15302-Z1LN

by Andy Clutton

The WV-X15302-Z1LN is a 2MP AI enabled outdoor IR Bullet LPR Camera with 10x optical zoom. It supports up to 9 variants of AI edge analytics. Its inbuilt infrared illuminators are rated up to 250 metres. The housing is up to IP67 and IK10 certified. It is NDAA compliant and includes built-in FIPS 140-2 security certified to level 3. It is optimised for license plate recognition and incorporates an optical long pass filter to enhance plate capture in difficult conditions.

The camera has a weight of 3.4kg and dimensions of approximately 40cm (L) x 16.8cm Ø. The length can be extended by up to a further 5cm if the sunshield is fully extended.

Getting started

The base bracket is used for fixing to walls or ceiling and includes a threaded conduit aperture in its side. An attachment plate fits into the base bracket and is used to hold the camera while the three hex securing screws are tightened. The camera’s base includes spring clips to retain the camera to the attachment plate during fitting and these can be pressed from either side to release.

The camera has just a single RJ45 connector for its PoE++ power and network connection. It is specified as requiring up to 32.4W PoE++ but can be run from a PoE+ source to 24.8W. An optional multicore connector is available to allow a 12-volt power source to be used, this lead also has connectors for audio in & out along with alarm input (3 x configurable inputs). When used, it is attached to a 12-way in-line connector accessed via a removeable grommet plate with four captive security hex screws. YouTube video clips are available to show preferred installation procedures.

At first power-up with no detections or LEDs active it was seen to draw around 13.5 to 15W. Full infrared intensity and therefore distance covered can only be achieved when using a PoE++ network source.

A fold out cover on the camera base secured by a security hex bolt, gives access to a micro-SD card slot (up to 512GB SDXC supported) and its on/off control, Wide and Tele zoom controls, along with an analogue test monitor output socket, with an initial-set button to switch the analogue output from its default NTSC to PAL. A jack to phono adaptor is supplied. LEDs for SD-Mount, Network Link and Activity show simple status details.

Operation

Once PoE plus connected, the camera’s web page can be accessed. If not known, the IP address can be discovered using the i-PRO Configuration Tool (ICT). At first connection the page forces the user to register a new administrator username and password. The username can be from 1 to 32 characters, but the password must be from 8 to 32 characters with a number of rules regarding character content. Once set you are prompted to sign in to the site. A secondary screen then prompts for language and time & date settings including date format and daylight savings date & time entry. NTP (Network Time Protocol) must be set from the main menu system. Once set the browser view displays the camera image at 1920 x 1080 pixels, 39 fps and H.265 encoding.

Four streams are provided with the first two having up to 1920 x 1080, the third is up to 1280 x 720 and the fourth is up to 640 x 360. Each can be individually turned off.

For the LPR functionality, there are a wide range of settings available to configure the camera for the country and region-specific requirements. On-screen guidance is given to position the camera for maximum capture success.
