Mayor of the West Midlands takes a factory tour

by Andy Clutton

Assa Abloy Opening Solutions UKI has hosted Mayor of the West Midlands Andy Street for a behind-the-scenes tour of its manufacturing facilities. The Portobello site has been operating out of the West Midlands for many years, employing over 600 people, making up a large proportion of the Assa Abloy UKI workforce in the UK.

The manufacturing site has seen significant investment over the past decade, and during his visit Mayor Andy Street was given a behind-the-scenes tour meeting many members of the operational teams, from apprentices at the start of their career to some of the longest-serving employees.

Speaking about his visit to the facilities in Willenhall, Mayor Andy Street said: “I thoroughly enjoyed my ‘behind-the-scenes’ tour. After having the chance to interact with employees old and new – spanning the spectrum from apprentices to colleagues who have served the firm for many years – I gained a much deeper appreciation for the remarkable heritage of this company here in the West Midlands.”

After seeing its range of mechanical products, alongside its new digital access control and smart home products, the tour concluded with Mayor Andy Street being presented with his very own personalised padlock to commemorate his visit.
