Pinnacle Systems has partnered with Amulet to centralise safety and security monitoring at London Zoo, modernising its infrastructure while preserving its historic character.
London Zoo, located in Regent’s Park spans 36 acres presenting complex challenges for infrastructure updates due to its age and varied equipment.
The Zoological Society of London (ZSL) embarked on a project to upgrade the zoo’s fire, security, and building management systems as part of a long-term modernisation plan. The central focus of this initiative was the integration and centralisation of the zoo’s fire alarm systems, which were previously outdated and inadequate for such a complex estate.
By choosing Pinnacle Systems’ open integration platform, London Zoo has achieved a connection between its fire alarm panels and upgraded CCTV system. This integration enables real-time mapping of fire alarms, custom text alerts, and public address messaging for rapid response and improved compliance with safety regulations.
The success of the project at London Zoo has paved the way for its expansion to ZSL’s sister site, Whipsnade Zoo. Installation of Pinnacle’s platform has already commenced, integrating fire alarm monitoring alongside a CCTV upgrade.
Future plans include adding building management system alarms, lift alarms, disabled refuge alerts, and temperature monitoring to safeguard animal welfare within enclosures.
Ric Martin, CEO of Pinnacle Systems, concluded: “Partnering with ZSL and Amulet has been an important opportunity. By providing a scalable and user-friendly solution, we’re helping ensure safety and efficiency at these iconic sites while supporting ZSL’s vital conservation work.”
