The Hydreon FakeTV FTV-10 burglar deterrent, available in the UK via Response Electronics, simulates the light of a television to give the appearance that there is someone at home. The idea is that any potential intruder is deemed less likely to attempt to gain entry to a property that appears to be occupied in the same way that using a timer switching lights on and off would hope to achieve.

The LEDs from the unit fills a room with light that simulates scene changes, fades and on-screen motion. The units also benefit from various timers which are triggered by a built-in light sensor which activates the system at 0.5lux. The timers give a range of operating times; on the FTV-10 these are four hours and seven hours after activation.

In this short video PSI Editor Andy Clutton gives a quick review of the system and explains how it works and why installers might be interested in getting hold of a few units.

The full product review will appear in the March 2015 edition of PSI magazine.
