A combination of Pickersgill-Kaye’s multipoint locks and two high security performance interlocking doors manufactured by Warrior Doors, foiled a ram raid attack on a jeweller’s in Birmingham, trapping one of the culprits inside the shop as he tried to make his escape.

The dramatic incident, which was caught on CCTV, featured a driver of a BMW 5 Series repeatedly ramming the car into the front of the jewellers’ shop but unable to smash his way through to gain access.

One of the occupants, who had got out of the car and entered the premises before his accomplice started ramming the outside door, realised the BMW was no match for the jeweller’s security system and as he tried to flee was retained in the secure airlock pending arrival of the police, while the driver gave up the attack and fled down the road into a waiting getaway car.

The lock fitted to the door was Pickersgill-Kaye’s HS270 Morticed 3-point access control locking system, which has an automatic deadlocking function and high security cylinder guard.

Warrior Doors managing director, Brett Barratt, said: “The whole event took less than three minutes, and the doors and shop front withstood the attack, keeping the shop owner, his daughter and grandchild and the two customers safe. The shop owner’s livelihood was maintained and the security interlocking doors still worked perfectly, locking and unlocking after the event.”
