The broadcaster and security journalist Frank Gardner OBE and counter terror expert and Drone Warfare author Dr Dave Sloggett have been confirmed as keynote speakers for this year’s IFSEC International, taking place 18-20 June 2019 at ExCeL London.
Frank Gardner has reported on many headline events, from Afghanistan and piracy off the Somali coast to Arctic challenges. Shot six times at close range while on assignment in Saudi Arabia in 2004, he was left severely wounded and dependant on a wheelchair. Awarded an OBE by HM The Queen in 2005, he is the author of three bestselling books.
Alan Taylor Research Fellow at The University of Oxford, Dr Dave Sloggett, has over 40 years of experience in the military and law enforcement sectors, is an authority on counter terrorism with his work taking him to Afghanistan, Iraq, the Balkans, West Africa and Northern Ireland, and author of Drone Warfare.
Gardner and Sloggett will deliver their presentations in the IFSEC Keynote Arena, host to a 21-session, free-to-attend programme designed to help visitors improve their security strategy, learn from real-life case studies and be inspired by some of the industry’s most influential figures.
“We’re delighted to announce such high-profile keynotes book-ending a fantastic line up in this year’s Keynote Arena, where speakers will discuss and debate some of the most topical and critical issues facing the security industry, from cybersecurity and ethical and legal challenges through to extremism, in this year’s IFSEC Keynote Arena,” said IFSEC event director Gerry Dunphy. “If ever there was a face of security in the UK, it’s Frank Gardner, and we’re thrilled he’ll be presenting the opening keynote at IFSEC International this year, as well as returning to chair the Keynote Arena programme. And, with drones dominating hundreds of column inches over the last six months, we’re confident Dave Sloggett’s closing keynote will be equally packed out. Dave wrote Drone Warfare five years ago, one of the very first books to examine the development and use of aerial drones, and is more than an expert on the subject.”
