The Security Event – More than just an exhibition!

by Andy Clutton

In early April, the main focus of the security and fire sectors will be on the events at the NEC as we attend The Security Event and its associated shows. Here is an overview of what’s on in addition to the exhibition itself

Open from the 8th to the 10th of April 2025, at the NEC Birmingham, The Safety and Security Series comprises the UK’s largest trade show events for professionals in the workplace health & safety, fire safety, security, cyber security and facilities sectors. Spanning across 35,000sq/m floorspace and featuring over 1,000 exhibitors, it’s a showcase of the latest innovations and developments from industry leaders.

Key features of The Security Event focus on specific emergency tech challenges and requirements, providing insights, strategies and advancements from experts in the sector. There are also zones situated around the show looking at specific topics related to the successful implementation of security systems and building an installation company. Here are a few of those zones in detail:

World Skills UK

Skills for Security has continued its collaboration with WorldSkills UK for the 2025 season, announcing the Electronic Security and Fire competitions will be merged into a single category. This strategic move aims to enhance the competition’s impact, broadening the scope for participants to demonstrate expertise in both electronic security and fire safety systems. By integrating these two crucial areas, the competition better mirrors the evolving demands, ensuring future professionals are equipped with comprehensive skills to meet industry needs.

Live Testing Lab

Over the three days, LPCB will host live demonstrations, offering valuable insights into the real-world performance of security solutions. Visitors can gain the knowledge to make informed decisions, ensuring they choose high-standard security solutions effective in safeguarding against potential threats.

Designing Out Crime Zone

See the latest police techniques to reduce crime and keep local communities safe. In association with Secured by Design (SBD), the national police crime prevention initiative has worked to raise security standards with the construction industry and government to embed designing out crime into the planning process. Other key partners involved are the Cross-Sector Security and Safety Communications (CSSC) initiative and West Midlands Police.

Live Fire & Security Testing

In association with Element and supported by Secured by Design, the Live Fire & Security Testing area will show the importance of using security rated doors to avoid opportunist attacks. Highlighting the commitment to maintaining and improving fire safety and security standards, by subjecting security doors through thorough testing.

Security seminars

At The Security Event, the education programme features case studies, workshops and seminar sessions to keep visitors up to date with the latest issues and developments in security. Free to attend, the programme has been formally recognised as professional development where attendees can claim accredited CPD points with The Security Institute. If visitors are part of the Chartered Security Professionals (CSyPs) and Fellows (FSyl) or looking to top up their CPD points, they can advantage of the free to attend education programme.

The Security Leaders Summit will feature expert speakers who will uncover emerging technologies, latest trends and best practice case studies for security professionals. With a specially curated agenda, attendees will come away with plenty of inspiring ideas and actionable strategies that can be applied to their respective businesses and profession.
