Fly tipping incidents increased over 50% in some areas during the Covid pandemic when many councils closed their tips. Despite Council tips now being reopened, the rate of fly-tipping continues to rise.
The top five most frequently fly-tipped items are:
- General household rubbish such as electrical items or mattresses
- White goods such as fridges and washing machines
- Construction, demolition and home improvement waste
- Garden rubbish
- General business waste
Uncontrolled illegal waste disposal can be hazardous to the public, especially if it contains toxic material or asbestos. This also poses a risk to soil quality and waterways.
OCULi HD from Luminite is ideal for tackling fly-tipping due to its battery-powered, rapidly deployable capabilities, using the 4G network to send captured images from events to the OCULi web portal and mobile app. The 5-megapixel camera captures clear images in any weather and lighting conditions and can clearly see car number plates, which provides valuable evidence against fly-tippers that can lead to fines.
The 15m x 90° wide-angle PIR detection pattern falls slightly short of the cameras’ field of view, ensuring that events are not missed. The quad-pyro sensor is sensitive to human activity and resilient to false detections.
The PIR settings can be adjusted within the OCULi web portal, allowing the user to configure sensitivity, and/or gating, pulse counting and the day/night threshold. The automatic IR cut filter ensures colour accuracy in daytime images without compromising on night-time clarity, enabled by the IR illuminator.
OCULi HD is fully tamper protected with IR anti-masking, 3-axis inertia sensing and enclosure tampers. The system can be used with a horn speaker or sounder kit to provide an audio challenge after an event has been captured and a solar kit is available to facilitate more power-intensive features such as streaming, footage requests and manual arm/disarm of units.
